Apple Crumble (Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free)

‘Tis the season for apple picking!  I made this warming dessert for a family dinner last week and it’s a fast favorite for Fall.  You can make this with any variety of apple – I used a mixture of Gala and Granny Smith. 


6 cups diced apples (any variety)

1/3 cup coconut sugar

3 Tbsp white or brown rice flour

1 Tbsp maple syrup

1 Tbsp lemon juice (from approximately 1/2 lemon)



1/3 cup coconut sugar

1/2 cup rolled oats (gluten-free)

1/3 cup sorghum flour

1/2 cup raw walnuts, chopped

1/4 cup coconut oil (submerge jar in warm water to melt to liquid consistency)



  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. Combine filling ingredients in a large bowl and toss to coat apples in the mixture. Make sure everything is well mixed before dropping into the prepared casserole dish.
  3. Place topping ingredients in a medium-sized bowl and stir until combined.
  4. Sprinkle topping evenly over apples.
  5. Warm in oven for 50 minutes, covering with a loose fitting sheet of aluminum foil after the first 20 minutes to prevent the top from burning.
  6. Allow the baked dish to sit with lid off for 20 minutes or so before enjoying!
