Is Wanting to Lose Weight Stopping You?

When it comes to reaching your health goal, how badly do you want it?

Whether you’re wanting to finally fit back into your ‘skinny’ jeans, have the energy to make it through the day and still be up for exercise, break free from your sugar addiction, or any other goal you’re working towards, ask yourself the following questions and jot down the answers: 

  • What is the specific change that you want to see with your health?
  • How much did you work on this goal this year?  (rate yourself on a scale of 1-10)
  • How badly do you want to reach this specific health goal?  (rate yourself on a scale of 1-10)
  • How willing are you to do what it takes to get there?  (rate yourself on a scale of 1-10)

These last two questions sound the same, but they’re different.  You may really, really, really WANT to be thin, burst with vitality, breathe easily, pass on the birthday cake at the office, or stabilize your moods.  But, do you want it badly enough to be WILLING to do something about it?  That’s the question.

Often when you focus on the desire to change, you stop right there.  You want something so badly that you wish for a magic pill solution.  You want to blink and open your eyes to a new reality.  Where your clothes feel roomy, your mind is clear and focused, and you’re able to get through the day without relying on coffee or coming home to an evening cocktail to unwind.  But, wanting something badly enough won’t make it happen!  (Or else most people you know would be lottery winners!)

So, instead, focus on the WILLINGNESS.  Developing your willingness to do what it takes to have the life you want is the key to getting it.  There will be work involved, but you’ll be rewarded each step of the way knowing you are moving closer to your goal rather than lusting for it from afar.
